Information

Numerical variables in Unreal Engine do not always make their meaning obvious. A value of 100 could represent centimeters, seconds, degrees, a percentage, or something completely different.

By adding a Unit to a Blueprint variable, you can make that information visible directly alongside its value. This makes variables easier to understand and reduces the need to explain their expected values through names or tooltips.

Add a Unit to a variable

Create or select an Integer or Float variable in the My Blueprint panel. In the variable's Details panel, find the Units setting and select the unit that represents the value.

The selected unit will then be displayed alongside the variable's numerical value in supported editor fields.

Units can handle conversions

Unreal Engine's unit system can also understand compatible measurement units. This means values can be entered using a different compatible unit and converted to the unit used by the property.

For example, instead of typing 200 cm, I can type 2 m, and it automatically converts the value to 200 cm.

Available units

There are 78 EUnit entries in Unreal Engine 5.8.
