What are post process materials / shaders?

Post process materials (or post process shaders) are visual effects that act like real-time image filters. Instead of changing the look of individual objects or materials, they modify the entire rendered image just before it's displayed on your screen.

This technique is used to create many familiar visual effects such as bloom, color grading, depth of field, vignette, motion blur, and more. By applying these effects at the final stage of rendering, you can achieve a more cinematic or stylized look without altering your scene's geometry or materials.

Read our Introduction to post process materials article for more information.

What are you working on right now?

You can see what we're currently working on in the roadmap, which outlines our plans, priorities, and progress toward future releases.

Who is Elias Wick?

Hi! I'm Elias Wickmark (Elias Wick), the founder and creator behind all products under the Elias Wick brand, including this website.

I started my journey in the early 2000s by modding games, building software, and experimenting with digital media. That path led to a career as a technical artist and consultant, where I've built plugins, tools, and assets for small indie studios and large AAA publishers.

After noticing how outdated tools and steep learning curves were holding back great ideas, I founded Elias Wick AB (Inc.), a company dedicated to building powerful, adaptable, and innovative solutions that redefine what's possible to create today.

Do you collaborate and accept sponsorships?

Yes, absolutely! We love partnering with brands and creators. If you're interested in collaborating or sponsoring, feel free to reach out via our contact page or email us at contact@eliaswick.com.

What is your stance on AI and generative tools?

We do not use AI to generate our products. In fact, most of our existing products predate today's generative AI. Our workflow is still the same: we build everything ourselves.

We think AI can be a useful tool, but it also causes plenty of issues. While it can "know" a lot, it often falls short in consistency, intent, and style. That matters to us.

Looking ahead, we may experiment with generative AI for visual inspiration, such as article thumbnails or other non-essential imagery. However, it will never replace our core creative work. We've also experimented with using AI to help write product descriptions, but it felt generic, buzzwordy, and disconnected from the actual product.

If you have thoughts, feedback, or a different perspective on AI and creative work, we'd genuinely love to hear it.

Yes. You may make reasonable modifications to the products as needed to integrate, debug, secure, or maintain them within your own end products, provided that you do not redistribute our products (or any substantial portion of them) as standalone assets, templates, or source materials that others could extract.

Is the product source code included?

Yes. The fully editable raw product files are included with your purchase. This gives you complete control over the product and allows for easy customization and integration.

Are product updates free?

Yes. All product updates are free for life. Once you purchase a product, you'll receive every future update at no additional cost. Updates may include new features, performance improvements, bug fixes, compatibility adjustments for newer Unreal Engine versions, and general refinements based on user feedback.

How are updates delivered?

Updates are delivered through the same platform you purchased from (Fab, Gumroad), so you'll always have access to the latest version in your account's library. We recommend keeping your products up to date to benefit from the latest improvements and maintain full compatibility with Unreal Engine.

Updates are not applied by default; you have full control over when you want to update.

How do I install or uninstall a product?

Installation steps vary between products, but each product page includes a link with detailed instructions on how to install and uninstall it.

In most cases, installation is quick and straightforward; it usually takes a minute or two.

Where can I find documentation and tutorials?

Most of our products are self-documented and designed to be intuitive to use. They include clear naming conventions, built-in tooltips, and structured layouts to help you understand their purpose immediately. For more advanced or feature-rich products, additional information and guides are available on our documentation page and learning page.

What's the difference between plugins and assets?

We offer a range of plugins, tools, and assets. Our products fall into two main categories: Plugins and Assets. Tools are placed in either category depending on their complexity.

  • Plugins are modular engine extensions that can be enabled or disabled as needed. They often introduce new functionality to Unreal Engine, typically implemented in C++.
  • Assets are files that can be added directly to your project. They typically consist of content created with Unreal Engine's built-in tools and systems.

Why are some products not on Fab?

Fab doesn't currently support listing individual materials. We're working with Fab to expand supported listing options.

Any health or safety considerations?

Some of our content and visual effects may include flashing lights or high-contrast imagery. If you are sensitive to such visuals, we recommend viewing in a well-lit environment, taking regular breaks, and stopping immediately if you experience discomfort. Most visual effects can be adjusted or disabled to suit your comfort and accessibility preferences.

Will my project still be unique if others use the same product?

Yes. Our products are intentionally designed to be modular and flexible, allowing them to adapt to different projects.

Each product is made up of individual components that can be combined, customized, extended, or modified to fit your specific project. How you use those components, along with your own ideas, workflows, and additional assets, determines the final result.

Best of all, our products are easy to modify and extend, allowing you to adapt them to your project as it evolves.

Are your products AI-generated?

No, our products are not generated by AI.

While AI can be a helpful tool in many areas, it isn't currently capable of creating, refining, and optimizing products to the level of quality, cohesion, and performance we aim for. We rely on human expertise, experience, and judgment to design and create every product. That personal touch is what sets our work apart from what AI technology alone can deliver.

Will your products support Unreal Engine 6?

Yes. We build our products with forward compatibility in mind, and we plan to support Unreal Engine 6 as soon as it becomes available and production-ready.

Compatibility & performance

Which Unreal Engine versions are supported?

Our products are developed for Unreal Engine 5, with a primary target of version 5.0 whenever possible. However, some products make use of features introduced in later Unreal Engine 5 releases. The specific Unreal Engine versions that each product has been tested with and officially supports are clearly listed on the individual product pages.

Do your products work with Nanite, Lumen, MegaLights, Niagara, Path Tracer, Substrate, Chaos, PCG, and Replication?

Yes, in most cases. Our products aim to support the entire Unreal Engine technology stack. However, there are some instances where our products can't be used with Path Tracer or other technologies. Any limitations are clearly listed on the product page.

Which platforms are supported?

Our products are primarily optimized for PC and console but are widely compatible with Android, iOS, and XR (VR, AR, MR). Some effects may require scalability adjustments for mobile or standalone XR due to hardware limits.

Do the materials work with both Deferred and Forward rendering?

Many post process materials rely on deferred rendering for buffer access. If a material or shader isn't compatible with forward rendering, it's clearly noted on the product page.

Does the product work in multiplayer?

Yes. All products are designed to work in multiplayer environments, but certain features may require extra setup or replication configuration for proper synchronization. If you plan to integrate a product into a multiplayer project and have questions about performance or implementation, feel free to contact us for guidance.

Do your products work with third-party products?

Yes. Our plugins, tools, and assets follow Unreal Engine standards, making them compatible with third-party products. However, if a plugin overrides the rendering pipeline or modifies post-processing globally, it can theoretically introduce conflicts.

We have not encountered any third-party plugins, tools, or assets that are incompatible with ours.

How optimized are your products?

We are known for our focus on optimization. Every product is built with performance in mind, designed to run efficiently while remaining fully readable and easy to modify. All products are optimized for real-time use in both gameplay and cinematics. If a product is more demanding, you can fine-tune its parameters to simplify it and maintain the ideal balance between visual quality and performance.

Billing & refunds

How do I request a refund?

Refunds are handled in accordance with our Refund Policy and the policies of the platform where you made your purchase (Fab or Gumroad). To request a refund, please begin through the platform's official refund process. If you need additional help, you can also contact us at contact@eliaswick.com.

When am I eligible for a refund?

Subject to the platform's rules, your purchase may be eligible for a refund if any of the following apply:

  • Not accessed/downloaded: Within 14 days of purchase if the digital product has not been downloaded or accessed.
  • Not as described: The product materially differs from its description or preview.
  • Technical issues: You experience technical problems that prevent reasonable use as advertised and we are unable to resolve them after you contact us.
  • Duplicate or accidental purchase: Duplicate orders or clear accidental purchases (case-by-case).
  • Other equitable reasons: In our reasonable discretion, given the circumstances.

Refund eligibility may be declined if we or the platform determine that the Policy is being abused (for example, repeated refunds after substantial use). Read our full Refund Policy for more information.

How fast are refunds processed?

Once a refund is approved by the applicable platform (or by us where permitted), we aim to approve it within 2 business days. The time it takes for funds to appear in your account depends on your payment method and provider.

Do you support refunds for accidental or duplicate purchases?

Yes, if the platform allows it and the product hasn't been downloaded. Contact us or use the platform's support flow as soon as possible with your order details.

What payment methods do you accept?

Accepted payment methods depend on the platform:

  • Fab: major credit/debit cards, PayPal, and other region-specific options.
  • Gumroad: major credit/debit cards, PayPal, and Apple Pay (where available).

We do not process or store any payment details on our website.

How is VAT or sales tax handled?

VAT or sales tax is calculated and collected automatically by the checkout platform (Fab or Gumroad) based on your billing country and local regulations.

You'll see the total amount, including any tax, before payment.

Can I get a company invoice with VAT details?

Yes. Both Fab and Gumroad issue receipts that include VAT or sales tax information as required.

If you need a detailed company invoice, you can download it from your platform account or contact their support.

How do I add my VAT ID and apply reverse charge?

If you're an EU business customer, you can enter your valid VAT ID during checkout on Gumroad. For Fab, add your company VAT number in your account settings. The reverse charge will then be applied automatically where applicable.

Which currencies do you charge in?

Prices are displayed in USD by default on our site. Some platforms may automatically convert prices to your local currency during checkout.

Is there a difference between Fab and Gumroad?

Yes, and no. You receive the same products and support on both platforms.

Differences mainly involve installation, payment processors, VAT handling, refund flow, and the End User License Agreement (EULA), since each platform has its own system.

We use both platforms to give customers more flexibility and to ensure we're not limited to a single sales channel.

Do you offer bundles or volume discounts?

We sometimes do! When available, they'll be listed on the product page or announced through our newsletter or social channels.

If you are a studio that needs custom solutions, bundles, or volume discounts, please contact us on our contact page or write to us at contact@eliaswick.com.

Can students get a discount?

We occasionally offer educational discounts upon request. If you can provide valid proof of current enrollment, we'll gladly review your eligibility.

Do you offer fixed prices for commissioned work?

Generally, our commissioned work is billed hourly, as this provides flexibility for both sides when a project evolves or the scope changes. For clearly defined tasks, such as implementing a specific feature or creating an internal tool, we can sometimes offer a fixed-price quote or a hybrid model (a base package plus hourly support if needed).

If you prefer a fixed price, please reach out via our contact page or email us at contact@eliaswick.com with a brief description of your project, timeline, and goals, so we can suggest the most suitable pricing model.

Are custom or commissioned products refundable?

Custom or commissioned products are non-refundable, as they involve tailored development and delivery. We ensure that all agreed-upon milestones and deliverables are met in accordance with the contract.

Can I use your products in commercial projects?

Yes. Your purchase grants you a limited, non-exclusive, worldwide, non-transferable, non-sublicensable license to use our product in your own end products (for example: games, simulations, apps, films/videos, visualizations) and to sell or distribute those end products. You may not ship our files as standalone assets or in a way that lets others extract or reuse them.

Read our End User License Agreement (EULA) for a full understanding of your rights, responsibilities, and the terms that govern your use of our products and services.

Can I use the same purchase across multiple projects / products?

Yes. You can use our products in an unlimited number of projects and products you create and control. You cannot redistribute our source files, modified source files, or enable their extraction.

Read our End User License Agreement (EULA) before purchasing or downloading any products.

Can a product be ported to another engine or DCC?

Yes, provided the port is solely for integration into your end product and does not expose our product for reuse or extraction. Do not publish ports or tools that enable others to extract our products.

Read our End User License Agreement (EULA) before purchasing or downloading any products.

Are product derivatives (kitbashing, remixes, modifications) allowed?

You may modify our products as reasonably necessary to integrate, debug, secure, and maintain them inside your end products. You may not resell, re-license, or share the modified sources, nor release derivative packs or plugins that compete with our products.

Read our End User License Agreement (EULA) before purchasing or downloading any products.

Can I open-source a project that uses your product?

Only if the open-source project does not include our product (or any substantial portion) in a form that allows extraction. In practice, that usually means you must keep our files out of the public repo and distribute them only in compiled, non-extractable form. If in doubt, contact us for options.

Read our End User License Agreement (EULA) before purchasing or downloading any products.

Can I use your logo or brand in my work or credits?

Attribution isn't required (though it's appreciated). You may refer to us nominatively ("Uses an Elias Wick plugin"). Don't use our trademarks, names, or logos as your own branding or in a way that implies endorsement without permission. If you'd like an official logo asset, email us at contact@eliaswick.com.
