Information

Make your Unreal Engine projects accessible to everyone! This Color Blindness pack is a collection of material functions and post process effects designed to help you realistically simulate Color Vision Deficiency (CVD) in real-time.

With an estimated 300 million people worldwide experiencing CVD, relying solely on color for crucial gameplay or UI mechanics can leave a significant portion of your audience at a disadvantage. This free asset pack allows you to visualize how players with CVD experience your work, ensuring your designs are clear, inclusive, and accessible from the ground up.

Key Features & Flexibility

While Unreal Engine offers native color blindness support for global previews, this asset pack acts as a powerful complement with more control:

  • Target Specific Objects: Apply simulations directly to individual meshes, UI elements, and other assets to test visual cues.
  • Localized Effects: Use post process materials to preview deficiencies within specific volumes or contexts, rather than forcing it across the entire viewport.
  • Camera Control: Enable previews on a per-player basis. This allows one developer to validate accessibility in real-time without disrupting other testers in multiplayer environments.
  • XR & Research Ready: Add Color Blindness to VR, AR, and MR to build immersive training modules, study visual disorders, or create realistic educational simulations.

Included Assets

The simulation models are built on the research of Gustavo M. Machado, and contains:

  • 3 core material functions that simulate the most common deficiencies:
    • Deuteranopia (Green-weak vision)
    • Protanopia (Red-weak vision)
    • Tritanopia (Blue-weak vision)
  • 6 Post Process Materials for flexible, volumetric, or global application.
  • 1 Test Level to instantly preview and experiment with the effects.
